A very social day
I wrote something yesterday, about two German Shepherds I've been walking for a while, starting in the Gus days. And they remind me of him in so many ways, especially the girl, Greta. It's all too raw and disorganized to share yet, but it helped me think about how to organize my book. Anyway, this is just to say that I did write yesterday. Did I tell you my plan/commitment to myself? I'm going to write every day, here or in a note for myself or whatever, and I'm not allowed to open TikTok until I do! It's kinda scary because I am very addicted to TikTok, and I miss my "friends" when I don't check multiple times per day. Oh my GAWD that is pathetic. I assume this feeling will dissipate with time.
Yesterday was a very exciting day for Murph! We started at the dog park, because I wanted to him to meet Maddy and/or Lucy, who are Megan's black lab girls. Megan is my favorite dog park friend, a real dog person, and very kind and sometimes I talk to her too much when I drink coffee, but I think she likes me too. So I had this idea that Murphy would play so nicely with her girls, I guess because they remind me of him, and they love to run and are goofy and sweet. Unfortunately, the reality of the situation was that Murph liked Maddy a little *too* much, like in a pin-her-down-and-hump-her way. She is very submissive, and apparently, that made him feel like a big man. I had to take him home in shame.
He redeemed himself slightly when Razzy (Laura Edelman's puppy) came over for a pre-sleepover visit. She is very sweet and loves to play. He was being a little bit humpy, but I only had to intervene a few times.
He played with Sully (without incident) after that, and then I had to leave so he stayed home and rested. You'd think that would be enough playdates for one day, but no, no, no, not here!! Not during February vacation! Brian very kindly picked up Jovie for me after his dentist appointment. Jovie is Theresa's dog, probably the sweetest, best dog I have ever met, and the part of this story that I cannot put in the public dog blog is that I'm pretty sure she got this way because the basically ignore her, so she's happy for any attention at all, but doesn't demand or expect it. She didn't even bark when Brian got to her house and she and Murph play *perfectly* together, which was not unexpected, since they've met and played together a bunch before. But one never knows, especially when one has committed oneself to helping multiple people in such a way that one is very overscheduled and really needs one's dog to not be an asshole. Hooray for small miracles.
Rebecca and Kristine came over with cake and snacks and wine and we did a little pre-bday celebrating. Rebecca got me a cake from Val, of Val Cakes fame, which is Rebecca's favorite and she kept bringing up that she wanted to get me a cake because Val wasn't available to make her a cake on her birthday. She is also sick and was just sitting there miserably the whole night, while Kristine and I chatted and drank wine. (Note to self: for the purposes of the dog blog, maybe just pretend Rebecca doesn't exist because apparently I cannot help bitching about her.) But still, it was nice, and fun, and Kristine send me a message this morning that my house has a "cozy vibe" and we should get together and work on our creative projects together.
Anyway, I was supposed to bring Jovie home last night, but she and Murph were doing so well that I just kept her and she is such a good girl that she slept downstairs after a few barks of loneliness, and Murph was so tired from his big day that he passed out and didn't wake up and figure out how to open the bedroom door and run downstairs to see her until I was up and went to the bathroom at 6. And now they're still playing and I'll probably keep her all day. This afternoon I'm going to have Sully and Gracie too because what in the world is this saying no business you speak of? But also I think it's going to be very cute and very fun and will provide lots of dog blog material.
See how easy it is to gaslight oneself?
