the house of many dogs

I was joking that would be the name of my dog boarding business.  Brian suggested kate's kennels but that's a bit pedestrian, doncha think?  Also, "kennel" doesn't really describe the very upscale, exclusive, boutique hotel-for-dogs vibe I'm going for.  Then again, the house of many dogs maybe is just a weird thing that me and my dad would find funny.  Good thing we're in no danger of starting a fucking blog let alone and entire business, which would necessitate the perfect name.

How is New Zealand South? Are you still in Picton? Did you have fun with Leigha (leia?) Dorable? How was your ice cream?  Omg Brian went over the top buying groceries for my birthday cause he feels bad that we are trapped on an island in a house full of dogs where no restaurants are open, and came home with a key lime pie, even though I have almost an entire Val Cakes cake in the fridge. He made this huge breakfast with dairy-free hollandaise because I'm off the buttah.  He is being SO cute and helpful and has totally saved me so many times when any given dog was driving me completely insane.  The first 24 hours of this extravaganza had its humpy, barky, ferocious ankle-bitey moments.  And then it surprised snowed, in that gentle, 80s sitcom Christmas special kind of way and the doggies loved it and I loved it and when I was driving Jovie home it was so still and frozen and magical.  I had one of those moments when you feel like you're exactly where you're meant to be, and where you'd wanted to be for a long time. I mean, the gummy helped, but for real.  Remember when I used to work at West Tis and I would dream about quitting my job and hanging out with dogs all day?  I am one dream-manifesting bitch.

Anyway, we're getting into a good rhythm over here, B and I took Murphy and Sully for a very chill walk this afternoon, after we brought Jovie home.  I think that was the first time I've ever walked them when they weren't trying to play the whole time.  Turns out, they just need to live together and play with other dogs for several hours a day.  They took a very long nap when we got home and I've been working on some dog writing and a fiction thing about your tunnel picture, cause I thought it would be fun if we both did it and shared them. And now Brian is making dinner and the dogs are awake and interested in the goings on, of course, as food is involved, and BriBri, but they're just so relaxed.  It's reassuring to see Murph settle down eventually.

But I wanted to say that the very best part of having doggie overnight visitors is that it makes you notice and appreciate the Very Good Things about your dog.  We all know I'm obsessed with Murph, but it turns out I really can love him more. Who knew? Imagine how much I'm going to love him when I get the house of many dogs open for business!!
